Delete your account
You can ask us to delete your WeatherZ account and the data attached to it at any time, and you don't need the app installed to do it. Here's exactly what happens and how to ask.
How to request deletion
Email [email protected] from the email address your account is registered with, with the subject “Delete my WeatherZ account”. Please include your username so we can find the right account.
Sending from the registered address is how we confirm the request is really from you — if you no longer have access to that mailbox, contact us via the contact page and we'll verify another way rather than delete the wrong account.
We'll confirm by email once it's done. We aim to complete deletions within 30 days, and in practice it is usually much sooner.
What gets deleted
Deleting your account removes:
- your account itself — username, email address and password;
- your profile details and any avatar you uploaded;
- your chat messages and community posts;
- your notification history and read state;
- your storm alert settings, including any location you saved for them;
- every registered device and browser, so notifications stop reaching them.
What we keep, and why
Two narrow exceptions, both required rather than chosen:
- If you previously joined the launch list and unsubscribed, we keep that address flagged as unsubscribed so a later mailing cannot accidentally reach you again. Ask us and we'll erase it completely — see the privacy policy.
- Where we have a legal obligation to retain a record — for example a report of illegal content — we keep only what that obligation requires, and nothing more.
We don't keep a shadow copy of a deleted account for any other purpose, and we never sell or share personal data.
If you only want the notifications to stop
You don't have to delete your account for that. Every notification channel can be switched off individually in Settings — email, browser notifications, app notifications and storm alerts are separate switches. Uninstalling the app also stops app notifications on that device on its own.
Your wider rights
Under UK GDPR you can also ask for a copy of your personal data, ask us to correct it, or object to or restrict how we use it. The privacy policy sets out those rights in full, and you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
